For over 25 years, Jim has been an advisor in both public and private markets, in domestic and cross-border transactions, and in industries as diverse as consumer products, utilities, and financial services.
Jim is a Co-founder of Origin Merchant Partners, where he has advised large corporate clients (KraftHeintz, Hydro One), entrepreneurial growth companies (Wyse, Yorkville), and public boards (CareRx, Teck Resources).
Jim was an initial partner in the formation of Genuity Capital Markets where he built and ran Canada’s leading independent M&A group. Following the acquisition of Genuity, Jim became Head of Canadian Mergers and Acquisitions at Canaccord Genuity until he left the firm in 2011. Previously, Jim was a Managing Director at CIBC World Markets, with 10 years of experience in the M&A and corporate finance groups.
Jim holds a B.A. (Honours) degree from Queen’s University and an MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. Jim earned both a Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Financial Analyst designation while employed by Ernst & Young in Toronto.
